Cryotherapy using the CryoPen
I offer advanced cryotherapy using the CryoPen to safely and effectively remove a wide range of benign skin lesions. This is a quick, precise treatment that uses extreme cold to target unwanted tissue without the need for invasive procedures.
Cryotherapy is ideal for treating common skin concerns on the feet and other areas of the body, with minimal downtime and excellent results.
What can be treated?
Cryotherapy is suitable for a range of benign skin lesions, including:
- Verrucas (plantar warts)
- Common warts
- Skin tags
- Seborrhoeic keratosis
- Age spots (sun spots)
- Cherry angiomas (red blood spots)
- Milia
- Small fibromas
- Moles (with consent from GP first)
Before any treatment, I will assess the lesion to make sure it is appropriate for cryotherapy. If there is any doubt, I will always advise referral to a GP or specialist.
How the CryoPen works
The CryoPen delivers a precise jet of nitrous oxide at extremely low temperatures (down to around -89°C) directly onto the lesion.
This rapid freezing process causes the fluid inside the unwanted cells to crystallise. When this happens, the cell walls break down and the tissue is destroyed in a controlled way, while surrounding healthy skin is left largely unaffected.
Because the CryoPen is so accurate, it allows me to target only the area that needs treatment, reducing damage to the surrounding tissue and improving healing.
What the treatment feels like
During treatment, you may feel a sharp cold sensation or a slight stinging feeling. This usually only lasts a few seconds.
Some areas, especially on the feet, can be a bit more sensitive, but the treatment is very quick and generally well tolerated.
What happens after treatment
After the procedure, the treated area may:
Turn white briefly (this is normal)
Become slightly red or swollen
Develop a small blister or scab
This is all part of the natural healing process.
Over the following days, the body will naturally remove the damaged tissue. The lesion will gradually dry out, darken, and either fall off or reduce in size.
Healing time varies depending on the type and size of the lesion, but typically:
Small lesions: 1–2 weeks
Larger or deeper lesions (like verrucas): may require multiple treatments
Aftercare and healing
I will give you clear aftercare advice, but in general:
Keep the area clean and dry
Avoid picking or scratching
Allow any scab or blister to heal naturally
Most people can carry on with normal activities straight away.
Safety and professional care
Your safety comes first. I only treat lesions that are clearly benign and suitable for cryotherapy.
If anything looks unusual, suspicious, or outside my scope of practice, I will always refer you to your GP or another healthcare professional for further assessment.
